Red Nose Day Rundown 2023
This Friday, 17 March marks Red Nose Day 2023. Red Nose Day is a campaign made to raise awareness of child poverty created and organised by Comic Relief. The charity itself, Comic Relief, was introduced to the BBC Christmas day 1985. Red Nose Day first took place in 1988. Back then, the televised show was watched by over 30 million people and raised £15 million. Lenny Henry went to Ethiopia and celebrated the first ever telethon.
Many people across the country take part by doing fundraisers and purchasing Red Nose Day’s infamous merchandise. Of course, the main merch contender being the red nose itself. Red Nose Day is also known for taking over the BBC with a long show jam-packed with talent and entertainment. In-between these clips, they cut to real life stories of child poverty and share some inspiring narratives. Red Nose Day raises smiles and money, helping people through unbelievably tough times.
