Ellacombe is our residential care home nestled in the Thorpe Hamlet area close to the centre of Norwich. The home provides short-term and full-time care and support, specialising in care and support for people living with dementia.
At the home we pride ourselves on providing person-centred care and support. All residents have their own room, many with ensuite facilities, and there are communal living rooms, dining rooms and secluded gardens. We also provide a varied programme of activities and events, helping our residents to be as involved as they wish. We are proud to be part of the local Thorpe and Norwich community and welcome visitors to the home.

What is Ellacombe like?
Ellacombe is a residential dementia care home in Thorpe Hamlet, Norwich. It offers a warm, supportive and homely environment where people are encouraged to live safely and comfortably as individuals, with care always close at hand when needed.
What care do you provide?
We provide residential care, dementia care, respite stays and end-of-life care. Everything we do is shaped around the individual, so support fits each person’s needs, routines and preferences, whether they are staying short term or living with us long term.
Do you support people living with dementia?
Yes, we do. Ellacombe is specifically designed to support people living with dementia, alongside other needs. We take time to understand each person so we can provide calm, consistent support that helps them feel safe, comfortable and settled day to day.
Can I come for a short stay?
Yes. We offer respite care for short stays, which can help with recovery, offer a break for carers, or provide a chance to experience life at Ellacombe. Everyone staying with us is fully included in daily life and activities.
Do you accept state-funded and private residents?
We welcome both state-funded and self-funded residents. If you’re not sure how funding works, we can help talk it through and make the options and next steps easy to understand.
What are the rooms and facilities like?
Ellacombe has 43 comfortable and homely bedrooms, some with en-suite facilities, designed to help residents feel relaxed and at home. The home features several lounges across two floors, shared dining areas and attractive outdoor spaces where residents can enjoy fresh air and spend time with family and friends. Some rooms and communal areas also benefit from lovely views of Norwich Cathedral, helping residents stay connected to the city and its rich heritage while enjoying a peaceful and welcoming environment.
What do residents do during the day?
There is a varied activities programme, including music, dancing, group sessions and one-to-one support. Activities are based on each person’s interests and abilities, and are always offered in a relaxed way so people can take part if and when they want to.
Can family and friends visit?
Family and friends are always welcome to visit. We operate an open visiting approach because staying connected matters. We provide on-site parking to make visits easy and convenient.
Care home rating
Ellacombe was last inspected by the Care Quality Commission on 20 July 2023, with the report published on 20 October 2023. The home is rated Requires Improvement overall, with Caring rated Good. We are working to lift Safe, Effective, Responsive and Well-led to the same standard. The full report is available on the CQC website.
