Progress celebrated at new care home in Norwich
The renovation and extension of Mountfield care home in North Norwich has passed a crucial milestone six months after work began on site. Our construction partner Pentaco Construction Limited, are progressing well with the refurbishment and extension of the home.
When complete, the 46-bedded care home for people living with dementia, will be a welcome addition to our homes, supporting the growing need for dementia care services.
Within the last few weeks, the extension to the existing 2 storey care home has been made watertight, allowing Pentaco and their subcontractors to progress to the next stage of the project including work on creating large ensuite bedrooms, new ceilings and floors, laying utilities and landscaping of the gardens at the home. The project is on schedule to be completed by the end of 2019, with the first residents moving in in early 2020.
Invited guests from NorseCare, NPS Group and Pentaco gathered at the site on Tuesday 16th July to mark this milestone in the project. Historically, buildings would be tested at a ‘topping out ceremony’ to see how water-tight they were by the pouring of a bottle of beer over the new roof.
Karen Knight, Managing Director of NorseCare, said: “This is a significant point in the project. Approximately 1 in 53 people in Norfolk has a diagnosed or undiagnosed dementia and UEA research figures suggest that the number of people in Norwich living with dementia will rise by 18% by 2024 to over 3,100 people.
“The progress on the home is looking really good and we’re excited to start work on the rest of the building, which will create a beautiful, new home for people to move into, where they will receive the highest possible standard of care.”
Andrew Proctor, Leader of Norfolk County Council who performed the ceremony with Karen Knight and Steve Boyd from Pentaco Limited said: “Mountfield will be another excellent addition of residential care services provided by Norfolk County Council’s residential care company. I look forward to seeing the home when it is open and residents are enjoying living here.”
Gavin Napper, Pentaco’s Managing Director said: “Pentaco are proud to host this milestone for the project and to be the construction delivery partner for Mountfield. We’re delighted to be helping to meet Norfolk’s growing dementia care demand by providing a purpose-built environment to support personalised care in specially designed surroundings. This is a great example of our Service Excellence project delivery programme.”
