Tenants at Great Yarmouth housing with care scheme make poppies with local school
Tenants living at The Lawns Housing with Care scheme in Great Yarmouth have been working on a wonderful integrational project with pupils from Northgate Primary School. Children from the school have been visiting the scheme and working with the tenants to make hundreds of poppies to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War. The poppies are made from the bottoms of plastic bottles, sprayed with red paint, a black middle and finished off with a black stem.
The poppies have been ‘planted’ and are now displayed in the garden outside the scheme and form a wonderful celebration of the 100th anniversary of the end of WW1.
Carole Nisbett, Manager at the Lawns, where NorseCare provides care to tenants in 30 flats rented from Broadland Housing explained: “The tenants really enjoyed working with the children on this lovely project. This year’s Armistice Day is a significant anniversary, and we’re sure the final display will be striking and remind us all of this important date in the calendar. We have always had a great connection to the schools and intergenerational projects are a key part of our role in the local community.”
A member of staff from Northgate Primary School said: “We enjoy joining in with community projects. We are proud to be educating our children about the centenary of the end of WW1 and plan an exhibition in school as well as a special service for all of our children. We will continue to work with The Lawns and have plans for involving them in our Christmas entertainment in December.”
