We are celebrating again as we have received our 4th outstanding CQC inspection report.
Tenants, families and staff at The Lawns Housing with care scheme on Caister Road in Great Yarmouth are delighted after inspectors from the Care Quality Commission gave the scheme an outstanding rating in a recent visit.
Inspectors visited in August 2019 when they spoke to tenants, relatives of tenants and staff at the scheme where people live independently in their own flat under a tenancy from Broadland Housing. Within the 5 key elements of the inspection report, The Lawns was rated at outstanding in 3 areas of the overall report – receiving praise for the caring, responsive and well-led aspects of the report, and good for the safe and effective elements.
In the report, inspectors enthused that “the service was exceptional in placing people at the heart of the service with a strong person-centred caring and responsive ethos”. Tenants told the inspectors that they were “treated with exceptional kindness, compassion and respect”.
One tenant described the staff as “absolutely wonderful, always there when I need them and always cheerful”.
In December 2016, the scheme was rated good overall and received an outstanding in the caring element of the report and was rated the same in the latest report, stating that “people were truly respected and valued as individuals; and empowered as partners in their care in an exceptional service”.
Activities and local community engagement was recognised, specifically mentioning a successful intergenerational activity initiative with the local school. A weekly lunch and after school brings children into the scheme to spend time with the tenants, including seated football. One tenant told the inspector “It’s really good fun when they come in, it makes you feel good being with young people”.
Registered Manager Carole Nisbett was praised as an excellent role model who actively seeks and acts upon the views of people. Her team spoke proudly of the way NorseCare operates and how proud they were to work for the company and how well they care for people.
Carole praised the team at The Lawns: “The Lawns is a great place where people love to live and love to work. We were delighted to receive an outstanding at our last inspection for how we care for people, but to receive an overall outstanding is just wonderful. We love being part of the local community and are always looking at new ways to help people and to improve the way we support them.”
The Lawns is NorseCare’s 4th overall outstanding inspection report, joining Westfields and Munhaven care homes and Lisbon Court housing with care scheme. The care and support at all other NorseCare homes and schemes is rated as good overall. Nationally, just 3% of care is rated as outstanding by the Care Quality Commission.
